Who’s that behind the desk?
We decided to take a break from our usual blog content and do something a little different. Since you’re always hearing from Kru Dustin, we wanted to give you an opportunity to hear from his better half and learn about the person behind the desk.
Hi friends! I’m Meg, and I’m the one usually behind the desk who Dustin fails to introduce to new students. I take care of most of the behind-the-scenes stuff, including memberships, website maintenance, social media, etc. I also keep the candy bowls full.
Dustin and I have been together for 20 years, married for 15. 😬🥴 So, when you see us annoying each other, just know it’s all love.
I grew up in York and got a BA in Professional Writing from York College. I went on to get an MFA in Creative Writing - Nonfiction from Pacific University in Oregon. To say I love language would be an understatement.
When I’m not at The Clinic, I work for a government contractor as a Communications Specialist. I love writing and editing and obnoxiously correcting Dustin’s grammar. I’ve been in communications for about 15 years and love the work I do. If you ever need a paper edited, hit me up.
In my free time, I hang out with my two dogs. Persie—named after Dutch footballer Robin Van Persie—and Dekkers—named after Dutch Muay Thai killer Ramon Dekkers. Neither Dustin nor I are Dutch, so that’s just a fun coincidence.
Some other things I enjoy include:
Running–I ran a half marathon back in 2023, and it was the hardest and most awesome thing I’ve ever done.
Cooking
Eating
Reading
Listening to music (Current/forever favorites below)
Coheed and Cambria
The Wonder Years
Sleep Token
90s boy bands (duh)
Watching sitcoms (Schitt’s Creek, Scrubs, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine are my top 3)
Lifting weights
Watching sports (favorites + who I support below)
Soccer: DC United, Everton
Football: Fly, Eagles, Fly!
Baseball: Go Os!
Muay Thai: Jonathan Haggerty, Tawanchai
I truly love the sport of Muay Thai, but I don’t enjoy getting hit in the face. 😁 That’s why I don’t train. I hold pads for Dustin (and during class if needed), but that’s really it. It’s a beautiful sport, though, and I watch it all the time—by choice and because it’s always playing on the TV at The Clinic.
Opening The Clinic was Dustin’s dream at first, but it quickly became mine as well. I love what you all have helped us build, and I’m excited to see everyone grow and improve. I’m proud of every single student every day, and I couldn’t be more grateful for all of them (and for everyone reading this blog).
I hope you’ve enjoyed learning a little more about me. Come chat with me any time—I love hearing about what you’re up to!
