We have Pride

June 09, 20252 min read

It’s Pride month, and I don't want to be a business that tries to monopolize off of a cause, so I was hesitant to write this. But it was important to me that I did, and I’m not using this as a marketing tool.

I know my personality, and I know my teaching style. I know I make a lot of jokes and allow others to joke, too. But I don’t let things cross certain lines. I want to put this in writing for all to see. I will let this gym go bankrupt and I’ll be homeless before I allow students to make anyone feel unwelcome because of who they are.

I will expel any student that makes anyone feel unwelcome for their sexual orientation, gender identity, race, religion, age (I know what some of you are thinking reading that one. I’ll cover it in a second.), etc.

The best gyms I’ve trained at have been like family, and that’s the environment I strive to create. If your family is anything like the families I’ve been part of, there is plenty of poking fun, chastising, and actual disagreements. I’m fine with that as long as everyone is having fun and being respectful. There is a running joke here about how I despise southpaws and teenagers. I’m constantly picking on the southpaws and younger students, but I always keep that light and talk to them afterwards to ensure I’m not crossing a line. I think they know I just do it because southpaws are historically better fighters, and I miss being a teenager and healing like Wolverine. But I swear I’m not jealous. 😁

I understand mistakes may happen. You have to own up to them, apologize to whomever you offended, and hopefully everyone can move on. However, if you do cross a line (if I have to explain to you where the lines are, maybe The Clinic isn’t for you) you’re out of here. I don’t care how good you are at Muay Thai, how much money you have/spend here, or anything else. This establishment is for everyone who wants to better themselves through Muay Thai.

If I or anyone else ever upsets you, please tell me. I will genuinely listen and do everything I can to be better and to ensure this gym is for everyone.

Be yourself and respect everyone else here for being themselves. So far I haven’t had any issues at the gym regarding this, so please don’t think I’m lecturing you. Everyone has been incredible, and I am so grateful to have all of you here. Let’s keep it that way as we continue to grow. Since you’ll never hear me say it while I’m teaching I’ll say it here—I love you all.
